A LETTER FROM SHARON
Hello
My name is Sharon. My parents went into care at Bulahdelah Cedar lodge in November 2018. Mums dementia got worse and my dad and my family could not cope with her at their home.
We tried to find a nursing home close to their town of Urunga to no avail, then her sister who lives in Raymond terrace suggested we try Bulahdelah nursing home (Cedar Wharf Lodge), which we did. The nursing home had a vacancy for Mum which was wonderful and had a unit so dad could go into. Mum was born at Bulahdelah and dad was born at Wotton.
The family was so happy to find a place that they could both be at, the only problem was, they have lived together for near 69 years and had been in the same house and bedroom together for that time. As you could have imagined Mum was not happy to be apart from Dad, but Dad would make to trek up to see her very day to have lunch and dinner with her.
In 2019 Dad had a fall which resulted in him being move up the the top section of the nursing home for care, this mention now that Mum was at one end of the hospital and Dad at the other.
As Dad was recovering from his fall, Mum was now the one to go visit Dad. When he recovered, they would meet at the TV room very morning to give each other a kiss and hug. If one was sick the other would go to that room and sit all day with each other. The love they share was marvelous. In 2019 they celebrated their 70 wedding anniversary on the 3 September, at this time Dad was showing his age of 90 and was not well, we had a wonderful morning tea for them which great to see this milestone with them. Now we are in 2020 the crazy year, my Dad got worse and as a result my Dad died on the 22 of June.
My Mum was heart broken, she had lost the love of her life, she missed seeing him and share their chats and holding hands, which they did when sitting together.
Now it is September and our Mum has died on the 18 September age 89, she could not go on with not having Dad by her side.
Mum will be joining Dad in heaven on Thursday 24 September as we say goodbye.
I just want to say a huge thank you to all the Anglican Care worker at Cedar Wharf Lodge for their kindness, care and support while our wonderful parents were in their care. Bulahdelah nursing home is a wonderful place.
