However, over time she became less able to fully care for herself and realised that she needed some assistance to maintain her independence. That’s when Lesley decided to take up one of our tailored HomeLife packages.
Early last year, she was put on a waiting list for some much needed surgery on her hip. While enduring the long wait for her operation, Lesley’s mobility decreased dramatically. Getting out of bed became distressingly difficult. Daily tasks she’d previously undertaken with little fuss proved painfully challenging.
Denise Rickman, our Retirement Living Coordinator, had been closely following Lesley’s situation and could see that her immediate care and safety was now a matter of priority.
“It was imperative that Lesley got the support she needed while waiting for her operation. After discussing the options, we agreed that respite in a residential care home was the ideal solution”, said Denise.
Lesley was then moved to the peaceful country village of Bulahdelah for some much needed respite at Anglican Care’s Cedar Wharf Lodge. Here she received the care and attention she needed, and, because Bulahdelah is just a short drive from Newcastle, enjoyed regular visits from friends and family.
Post-surgery, Lesley is back in her own home at Buchanan Court with some lovely memories of her unexpected ‘holiday’. With the help of her home care package, she’s now living independently again.
And for Lesley, that’s what matters most.
