Our recent Carers’ Function was a wonderful chance to recognise the local carers in our community who dedicate so much of their time to caring for loved ones.
Held at Toronto Diggers, over 100 carers and clients from our day centres, Alkira Respite & Day Therapy Centre at Toronto and East Lake Macquarie Dementia Service at Belmont, attended. Our Marketing Manager, Kylie Jacques who attended the day stated “As a society we often overlook the role family members and friends have in providing care and support for the elderly. By providing a special luncheon with lucky door prizes, gift bags and entertainment, it’s our small way of thanking the carers for the time they give.”
Among the speakers on the day, funded through the Club Grants Program, was our Senior Nurse Educator Janet Sykes. Her encouraging words were felt around the room as she spoke about the three cornerstones of wellbeing – having someone or something to love; something to do; and something to look forward to. Janet also encouraged our carers to nurture their relationships, the purpose in the lines and the hope.
