Mel’s journey from trainee to director

For the residents and families of CA Brown, there would be few who haven’t met Mel Watts.

Over the past 25 years, Mel has progressed from a trainee Care Assistant to helping open CA Brown Lodge as a Clinical Care Coordinator. She now serves as Clinical Director of Aged Care and NDIS.

“I always wanted to be a nurse, and I remember when I was 19 years old and completing my training,” Mel says.

“My grandfather was so proud when I got my first nursing job at CA Brown Lodge because of its reputation in the community,” Mel says.

“It was known as the best place you could work.”

That sense of pride has remained with Mel throughout her career, with CA Brown at the heart of her professional journey for more than two decades.

“I would definitely say CA Brown is the highlight of my career,” she says.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to watch it grow over the years.

“Now, as Clinical Director, I have the opportunity to support not only CA Brown but also other facilities as we continue to grow, develop, and deliver the best possible care for the people we support.”

She is thankful for the incredible support shown by colleagues and managers throughout her career.

“Whether it was while raising my two children or undertaking further study, Anglican Care always supported me,” Mel says.

“That support has cemented my commitment to the organisation and my desire to continue providing high-quality care for the people we support.

“I’ve been with Anglican Care for more than half my life, longer than I’ve been a mother and even longer than I’ve been married, having tied the knot just last year.

“I’m passionate about continuing to learn, embracing best practice, and delivering excellent care that makes
a positive difference in the lives of the people we support.

“What I value most about aged care is the dedication of our team. People come to work each day with residents at the heart of everything they do, committed to providing the highest standard of care.”

Congratulations, Mel, on your remarkable journey so far. We are grateful for your dedication, leadership, and ongoing contribution to Anglican Care.
